Walkable City, Living Streets’ conference

(7 May 2013) - Civic Exchange co-hosted a full-day conference entitled ‘Walkable City, Living Streets’. Various speakers and panelists shared their insights on Hong Kong’s pedestrian network planning, pedestrian safety and streets as public space. The Secretary for Transport and Housing and Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) were present to deliver the keynote presentation and welcome remarks. Engaging Stakeholders on the Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan

(May 2013) - Civic Exchange has been working alongside the conservation community to support the development of Hong Kong’s first Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. The intention of these meetings is to elicit the views of stakeholders and identify opportunities for collaboration on biodiversity conservation. ‘The Changing Faces of Hong Kong’: A
discussion with local NGOs

(13 May 2013) - Local NGOs dedicated to the advancement of women gathered at the Civic Exchange office to discuss the findings from the recent publication series ‘The Changing Faces of Hong Kong’. Pamphlets: Radiation and Public Health explained

(24 April 2013) - As part of its Energy Project, Civic Exchange has produced a series of pamphlets aimed at enriching the understanding and dialogue on radiation and its effects on public health. Three new pamphlets have been published this month: ‘Health effects of ionizing radiation’, ‘Ionizing radiation from nuclear power plants’ and ‘Frequently asked questions about radiation’.

Seminar: The Changing Faces of Hong Kong, 1991-2011

(12 April 2013) – A seminar with academics and NGOs was held on the recent Civic Exchange publication series, ‘The Changing Faces of Hong Kong’ [Download reports]. Prof. Michael DeGolyer, Ms. Carine Lai and Ms. Louisa Mitchell presented the findings from their research. The increasing burden on women in Hong Kong, and other insights from the research, allowed for a lively discussion.

Press release: Civic Exchange encouraged by the new administration’s commitment to improve the environment, but reminds the government that determination, perseverance and multi-stakeholder collaboration are keys to turn things around

HONG KONG: Wednesday, 16 January 2013 – On environment, Civic Exchange welcomes Chief Executive C Y Leung’s proposals in his maiden policy address to tackle the city’s pressing environmental issues, including air pollution and nature conservation, among others. However, only time will tell whether government plans will be turned into real actions that deliver a liveable environment for Hong Kong people. On good governance, Civic Exchange finds it disappointing that the government has not planned to ensuring proper public records management in Hong Kong through enacting an archive law.
