An Introduction to Energy Supply in Guangdong: Setting the context for nuclear power in Hong Kong

There are tremendous connections between Guangdong and Hong Kong in terms of energy generation and consumption. As 23% of Hong Kong’s electricity comes from the Daya Bay nuclear station, and Hong Kong SAR Government is planning to further increase this proportion to 50% by 2020 in order to reduce Hong Kong’s reliance on coal, it is important that Hong Kong people should know more about the relationship among the Central Government, Guangdong and Hong Kong in relation to energy issues, so that we could understand the current energy situation in Hong Kong and hence to make our own judgment on the merits of developing a nuclear industry.
